OIKN: FEF Increases Interest In Learning English Elementary Students At IKN

JAKARTA - The IKN Authority (OIKN) carries out the Friday English Fun program or FEF in a number of elementary schools in order to increase interest in learning English for elementary school (SD) students around the capital city of the archipelago (IKN).

"Friday English Fun or Friday, which is fun, is carried out regularly for students in the IKN area, Sepaku District, North Penajam Paser Regency (PPU), East Kalimantan (Kaltim) especially elementary school students," said OIKN Basic Service Director Suwito as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 12.

He said the FEF activity was scheduled regularly every Friday with participants of all elementary school students in the IKN area being initiated by the Deputy for Social Culture and Community Empowerment of the IKN Authority through the Directorate of Basic Services of the IKN Authority.

The FEF activity aims to cultivate English for Indonesian students. Where at the beginning of Friday (8/3/) yesterday, it was carried out on three State Elementary Schools (SDN) in Sepaku, namely SDN 005 in Sukaraja Village, SDN 014 Pemaluran Village and SDN 020 Bumi Harapan Village.

"We will continue the next activity to other schools in the IKN area," said Suwito.

He added that there were various activities in FEF that his party carried out in collaboration with the school, including English counting training, practicing getting to know the names of body members in English.

"Then singing in English, English market day, simple quizzes, etc.," he said.

According to Suwito, all participants in the activity simply responded well to this activity.

The hope is that in the future it will have a positive impact on students and will get used to using English in their daily activities.

This FEF activity was carried out to train the ability to communicate with students in the IKN area called Speak English Now (SNOW). Location points used to realize activities are held in several schools in the IKN area.

Suwito revealed that the purpose of establishing this program is to prepare Olympic coaching for students at IKN. Where the implementation of the activity is to provide a more enjoyable English learning platform for students, as well as practice English in the school environment and in the neighborhood where they live in the IKN area.

The key to this activity is to train the confidence and courage of young students to be able to have public speaking skills. In accordance with the theme we carry, namely Build Confidence Through English," he said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy for Social Culture and Community Empowerment of the IKN Authority, Alimuddin, emphasized that the activities that have been carried out will be massive in all schools located in the IKN area, so that human resources in the archipelago will be even better.
