Gagas Energi Ensures Gas Supply In Bali Is Safe During Nyepi Day

JAKARTA - Pertamina Gas Subholding, through its subsidiary PT Gagas Energi Indonesia (Gagas) ensures that natural gas supply is safe throughout the series of implementations of Nyepi Day 2024 on the Island of the Gods, Bali.

President Director of Gagas Muhammad Hardiansyah said Gagas had distributed natural gas in Bali for the first time since early 2023 through Gaslink, namely natural gas distribution using the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mode of transportation imported from the East Java region.

"From the Gas Fuel Filling Station in East Java, compressed Earth Gas is put into a special gas-carrying truck or commonly known as Gas Transport Module (GTM) and will then travel over land and sea for more than 450 km to Denpasar," Muhammad explained in a statement to the media, Friday, March 8.

After arriving in Denpasar, he continued, GTM will fulfill the provision of gas for customers in the industrial and commercial sectors in Bali such as hotels, restaurants to beach clubs.

Under normal conditions, the process of shipping Gaslink to Bali will be carried out every 2-3 days and filling up Gaslink storage on customers every day.

However, to anticipate the closure of Gilimanuk and Ketapang ports in connection with the implementation of Nyepi Day, delivery will be maximized so that GTM can continue to supply gas to customer locations before the Nyepi procession begins on Monday, March 11, 2034.

"To meet the gas needs of several customers who must continue to operate during Nyepi such as hotels, Gagas will maximize gaslink filling on Sunday afternoon (March 10). Then we will carry out the charging process again on Tuesday morning (March 12)," explained Hardiansyah.

Hardiansyah also added that the distribution of Gaslink on the island of Bali has its own challenges, especially because of natural gas supply sources that are not yet available on the island of Bali.

"But as a form of commitment to optimizing natural gas distribution to various regions in Indonesia as well as to support the Government's target of achieving Net Zero Emission by 2060, Gagas will continue to focus and develop natural gas distribution as an alternative energy that is more environmentally friendly for the island of Bali," he said.

Moreover, the development of the natural gas market through CNG on the island of Bali also shows a positive trend. At the end of 2023, Gagas has served around 16 customers with a total distribution of 10,950 MMBTU. Furthermore, in 2024, Gagas projects the distribution of gas customers on the island of Bali to reach 45,000 MMBTU.
