JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is collaborating with Padjadjaran University (Unpad) in improving the quality of human resources (HR), applying research results, to empowering marine and fishery communities. "This is the task and function of universities to conduct in-depth research and research. There has been a signing of the MoU between the KKP and Unpad. My hope is not only with Unpad, but with the entire marine and fisheries faculty of Indonesia," said Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono as quoted from ANTARA, Wednesday, March 6. He hopes that student involvement through collaboration with universities and the resulting innovation can have an impact on the successful implementation of the blue economy program in the community. A blue economy program, he added, was made to ensure that the use of fishery resources is carried out measurably so that sustainability is maintained.

From an economic perspective, the goal is to provide equal distribution of development and welfare for coastal communities, as well as create the widest possible employment opportunities for the community.

"My hope from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences or FPIK will really be studied, explored and explored until new research is released. Indonesia must be able to become a champion in the field of cultivation. Research is the cheapest from universities. So if we don't use universities to do research, then a mistake for this nation," he said.

In a public lecture at Unpad Bandung, Trenggono also hopes that students will innovate and work as a form of building food security.

The reason is, along with the increase in the human population, protein needs are increasing.

In fact, in 2035, the global human population is predicted to reach 8.8 billion people, causing an increase in protein demand by 49 percent, while in Indonesia, protein demand is predicted to increase by 56 percent compared to 2019. Meanwhile, Unpad Chancellor Rina Indiastuti welcomed the collaboration with the KKP.

According to him, the KKP's goals are in line with Unpad's main scientific pattern as a basis for the work and function of higher education.
