General Manager of PLN UID West Kalimantan (Kalbar) Wahyu Jatmiko said that his party together with PLN Icon Plus are ready to develop a 1 Million Roof Solar Power Plant (PLTS) program in West Kalimantan as an effort and steps to increase electrification.

"The PLTS 1 Million Roof program is one of the efforts made by PLN to support the government in improving electrification quality through the application of renewable energy for PLTS," Wahyu Jatmiko said quoting Antara.

He added that the community should be proud, because the construction of PLTS 1 Million roofs for residents' houses in West Kalimantan was the first in Indonesia.

"This is a form of our contribution to the Indonesian people, especially in West Kalimantan," said Jatmiko.

He admitted that this roof PLTS program really helps the public to be able to enjoy electricity for a full 24 hours, so that activities carried out can run easily and smoothly, including business activities carried out by the community, both day and night.

This has been felt by the people on Lemukutan Island, West Kalimantan, which is the location of the Roof PLTS pilot.

"On Lemukutan Island, it has made people who were originally only able to enjoy electricity for 12 hours, can now use electricity for 24 hours for daily activities," he said.

"The potential for abundant solar energy, especially in the West Kalimantan region, must be utilized and managed optimally through collaborative efforts, so that it can create value in energy management, especially solar energy," he said again.

The Director of Electricity Relations Business of PLN Icon PlusChipta Perdana also explained that as a subholding beyond-KWH from PT PLN (Persero) which carries the concept of Green and Digital Solutions, PLN Icon Plus will realize the PLTS 1 Million Roof Program starting from the PLN UID West Kalimantan Region.

Through this program that started in West Kalimantan, we will install solar panels equipped with batteries on the roofs of residents' houses. Those who have only enjoyed electricity for 12 hours will be able to enjoy full 24-hour electricity. In addition, for PLN, with the existence of a roof PLTS, this will certainly reduce the cost of basic electricity production in areas that still use PLTD," he said again.

Based on PLN data in July 2023, the electrification ratio of PLN in West Kalimantan has reached 94.09 percent. Meanwhile, the PLN Electricity Village Ratio (RDB) in West Kalimantan is 79.72 percent of the 2,145 total villages and sub-districts in West Kalimantan, so there are still 435 villages or hamlets that have not been electrically connected by PLN.
