Indonesia And America Sign Sustainable Energy And Mineral Cooperation

JAKARTA - The Government of Indonesia and the United States are collaborating in the field of sustainable energy and mineral development, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of circular energy and mineral cooperation (desk to desk), between the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and the United States Ambassador to Indonesia.

"This signing reflects the strong commitment of the two countries in strengthening collaboration in increasing energy and sustainable mineral cooperation and complementing the existing energy cooperation between the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and the United States Ministry of Energy and the United States Ministry of Trade," said ESDM Minister Arifin Tasrif quoted on Saturday 11 November.

Arifin explained that this collaboration with the US Department of States will cover the Energy Resources Governance Initiatives (ERGI) and the Clean Energy Demand Initiative (CEDI) programs, which are US initiatives to assist Indonesia in sustainable mineral management with various topics, namely mining and geology, supply of electricity network security and security and security, renewable energy, clean energy and energy transition including technology, biofuel (BBN) and related products, as well as other fields that will be determined together.

"This collaboration with the United States Ministry of Foreign Affairs will strengthen existing cooperation, especially in terms of strengthening the development of the mineral industry to support the energy transition," said Arifin.

The United States Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Kim stated that the signing of the MoU would strengthen clean energy cooperation and the development of sustainable mineral resources between the United States and Indonesia.

"I am proud to sign this MOU together with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, which I believe will strengthen partnerships in promoting clean energy and developing sustainable mineral resources. Together, we will continue to strive to support a cleaner energy future and achieve common goals related to climate," said Sung Kim.

The signing of the MoU shows the strengthening of Indonesia's energy cooperation with the United States. The MoU of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the United States Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also be one of the deliverers announced in the United States during the visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to Washington DC and San Francisco in the context of a bilateral meeting with President Biden and APEC Leader's Meeting on 12-17 November 2023.

For information, ERGI is an initiative from the US Department of State to promote mining issues and the supply chain of US mineral resources. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources welcomed the ERGI initiative with the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal as the implementer of the cooperation in question.

Meanwhile, CEDI is an initiative of the United States government aimed at becoming a bridge between US companies to be able to invest in countries that require investors for clean and renewable energy projects.

Around 325 US companies have joined this initiative. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources has also announced Indonesia's support for the CEDI and Net Zero World Initiatives on the occasion of COP-26 Glasgow on November 4, 2021.
