Pertamina Prepares Two Refineries For Bioavtur 'Masak'

PT Pertamina (Persero) launched a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) product with a mixture of palm oil on Friday, October 27.

Pertamina's Director of Logistics and Infrastructure, Alfian Nasution, said that the current production capacity of bioavtur is 1,350 kiloliters (KL) per day.

For this reason, his party has prepared additional refineries to produce bioavtur.

"Currently (production) 1350 KL per day. However, we are preparing the Plaju Refinery, Dumai Refinery. That is our next green refinery, we will see the conditions later," said Alfian, Friday, October 27.

Regarding the selling price, Alfian said the price that applies to environmentally friendly fuels is still above the avtur price and requires further discussion regarding the price to be imposed.

"Maybe we will discuss it further. What is clear is that the price is above the avtur price," added Alfian.

Just so you know, in 2021, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional managed to produce SAF J2.4 at Refinery Unit IV Cilacap with Co-Processing technology from Refined Bleached Deodorized Palm Kernel Oil (RBDPKO) raw materials, or palm oil that has undergone the process of processing illumination, removing free and odor fatty acids, with a capacity of 1,350 kilo liters (KL) per day.

Through collaboration with relevant stakeholders, he said, the SAF product then went through a series of trials on engines and aircraft units.

The series of tests started from cell tests at facilities owned by the Garuda Maintenance Facility (GMF), ground runs, flight tests on the CN-235 military aircraft belonging to PT Dirgantara Indonesia, to the test flight of a commercial aircraft belonging to Garuda Indonesia on October 4, 2023 on a Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft belonging to PT Garuda Indonesia.

Pertamina Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) products will later be marketed and distributed through the subholding of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga.

The results of a series of tests that have been carried out, show that SAF J2.4 performance has the same quality as conventional avtur.

This is the answer to Pertamina's commitment to providing environmentally friendly flight fuel, and has been used for commercial flights today.
