Government Confiscates 638 Bal Of Imported Used Clothing, Value Of IDR 50 Billion

JAKARTA - The government confiscated as many as 638 bales of used illegal imports estimated at IDR 50 billion in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, on Thursday, October 26.

The government's action was destroyed and donated to local governments.

The prosecution was carried out by three ministers, namely Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto immediately destroyed and symbolically granted the illegal used goods.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto conveyed the government's reason for taking firm action against the circulation of clothing used for illegal imports, because it threatens micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and the domestic textile industry.

"This activity is clear evidence of the Government's serious concern to continue to provide protection for domestic industries and MSMEs from the threat of illegal imported goods. This is also an excellent result of coordination in implementing the import tightening policy," he said at the Press Conference after leading the destruction of illegal imported goods at the Cikarang Customs and Excise Hoarding Complex, Simpangan, North Cikarang District, Bekasi Regency, West Java, Thursday, October 26.

The extermination activity is a follow-up to the results of the supervision carried out by the Government on illegal imported goods and does not meet the standards and prohibition documents and restrictions.

Airlangga said that the illegal imported goods destroyed included Used Clothing Products, Steel Products, Pipes, Mandatory Commodities of SNI, Forestry Products, Electronics, Cosmetics, Food and Beverages, as well as Ukur Equipment and other Textile Products.

Similarly, the Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan, said that the destruction of illegal imported goods consisted of used clothes that were prohibited from importing, several commodities including iron, electronics, medical devices, food and beverages, measuring instruments that did not meet permits, electronic child toys that did not have a manual guarantee card for Indonesian labels and none of the SNIs.

"The total value destroyed or donated today is almost Rp. 50 billion or Rp. 49.951 billion. So almost Rp. 50 billion, most of the clothing entered illegally," he explained.

Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati said the results of the findings of the operation in the prosecution were 638 packs of used clothes which were now confiscated by DJBC, Bareskrim, and the Ministry of Trade.

"From Pasar Senen there are two trucks around 113 bal. From Bandung Gedebage there are 221 bals. In Jakarta apart from Pasar Senen there are 200 bals. Additional from Pasar Senen for prosecution on October 12 as many as 104 bals. So this operation was carried out by taking action as many as 638 bal used clothes," he said.

He said, there were findings by Cikarang Customs and Excise at Tanjung Priok Port as many as 9 containers containing 2,401 bales of clothing whose value was estimated at IDR 12 billion.

"If it is assumed that one bale is around Rp. 5 million," he said.

Sri Mulyani added that there were other findings for the prosecution of illegal imported goods in the form of carpets or prayer mats of 53,030 pcs with an estimated value of IDR 1.8 billion.
