JAKARTA - Carbon trading on carbon exchanges is considered not yet crowded until now it is said that it was launched on September 26, 2023.

Head of the Indonesia Stock Exchange Business Development Division (IDX) Ignatius Denny Wicaksono said that in increasing carbon trading, his party had prepared a number of strategic steps such as creating a Raod map for carbon exchanges and expanding the carbon trading sector.

Denny added that the IDX is also conducting a study on the proposal of brokerage for securities. Later, securities companies can participate as intermediaries in carbon trading on carbon exchanges.

Regarding brokerage, Denny explained that this is still a concept that is being studied. However, there are several securities companies that have provided carbon exchange trading services.

Denny said the IDX not only wants to expand the domestic carbon trade sector but will be on an international scale.

"The IDX is currently waiting for policies related to opening carbon trading in the international market. If it is international, the demand will increase. Hopefully we can unlock all the value," said Denny at the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2023, Tuesday, October 24.

Denny conveyed that with the help of the Exchange Members, they hoped that the carbon exchange trade would increase and be crowded.

For information, from September 26 to September 29, 2023, the number of carbon exchange transactions reached IDR 29.21 billion with a volume of carbon units trading around 459,953 tons of equivalent co2.

On the other hand, there are 16 trading actors consisting of one seller, namely PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk and 15 buyer companies.
