Luhut Is Judged To Be Suitable To Replace Bob Hasan, A 41-year-old Figure As Chairman Of PASI

JAKARTA - The emergence of the name Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as the sole candidate for the chairman of PB PASI ahead of the 2021 PASI Congress which will be held Monday, January 25, has received full support from the parent of the national athletic organization because this figure has good experience in sports management and diplomacy.

"Luhut is considered suitable to lead PB PASI. Apart from having experience in leading a sports organization, namely FORKI, he also has excellent diplomatic skills, making it possible to collaborate with other countries in improving the quality of Indonesian athletics," said Secretary General of PB PASI, Tigor Tanjung. Before Luhut became the sole candidate, PB PASI had already approached a number of figures considered suitable to lead the organization. In the end, however, only the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment expressed his seriousness to become the Chairman of PB PASI.

"So, we asked him to lead PB PASI," said Tigor.

Ahead of the congress, Tigor ensured that all PASI provincial officials had expressed their full support for Luhut to lead PB PASI.

As of Friday, out of 34 pengprov, only 31 have expressed their support for Luhut. However, now full support from all provincial officials has been sent to PB PASI to elect Coordinating Minister Luhut to be the general chairman of the 2021-2025 period.

"So that it is certain that in the next Congress, the election for the general chairman will take place by deliberation to reach consensus or by acclamation," he explained.

As is known, after the death of Mohamad Bob Hasan as general chairman, who died on March 31, 2020, PB PASI was led by Acting Chairman Zacky Anwar Makarim.

Bob Hasan has been active as Chairman of PASI since 1979. During his 41 years led by Bob Hasan, Indonesian athletics has reaped many achievements both at the regional and world levels.

Therefore, in the next leadership period, new leaders are also required to be able to maintain or even improve Indonesia's athletic achievements in the world arena.

The congress, which was originally planned for December 2020, will take place virtually to prevent the spread of the corona virus and comply with health protocols.

Chairman of the 2021 PASI Congress Organizing Committee Umarsono said that up to a week before the event, all PASI prov and one special member had declared their readiness to participate in the congress.

In addition to choosing the general chairman, the congress which will be opened by the Chairman of KONI Marciano Norman also scheduled the accountability of PB PASI management for the 2016-2020 period.
