JAKARTA - The Ministry of PUPR noted that the road safety conditions in Pantura Central Java experienced a significant decline, this year.

Director General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR Hedy Rahadian said Central Java's steady condition had decreased by around 8 percent.

"We report that Pantura's condition for Central Java has dropped somewhat, from its safety of 97 percent and currently it is 89 percent," he said in an RDP with Commission V DPR RI in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 12.

Hedy said, there were a number of problems that occurred in Pantura, Central Java, thus exacerbating the road safety conditions in the area.

"If we look at the problems of Central Java or Pantura in general, because a number of damages often occur and are easily repeated, namely the existence of areas that are often hit by floods, for example in Central Java," he said.

The Director General of Highways said that one of the areas that is still the focus of the Ministry of PUPR is the Plelen area located in Batang Regency, Central Java.

"Our current focus is on Plelen. Plelen is also a local flood area. Then, Pantura Semarang-Demak is a legend, I think because it's a tidal area," said Hedy.

Not only that, Hedy also said that his party was working on the Pantura in the Batangan, Kudus, Lingkar Kudus, and Pati areas, which were indeed flood-prone areas, to date.

"It's also an area that is prone to flooding and that's a problem because the flooding is not over, and we know that the road is very sensitive to wet conditions," he said.

Therefore, continued Hedy, his party cannot deny that the budget for improving road safety conditions in Pantura, Central Java, is the largest of other regions.

"If we look at the budget allocation, (budget) for Central Java, we have indeed increased Rp543 billion this year compared to previous years. This is the highest allocation in the last six years," he concluded.
