Coordination Meeting With Acting Governor Of DKI, Minister Of PUPR Affirms Supporting The Arrangement Of The Central Jakarta Monas Area

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono held a Coordination Meeting (Rakor) with DKI Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono at the Jakarta City Hall Office, on Tuesday, April 11.

The meeting was to discuss further steps in the plan to organize the Medan Merdeka alert, including the National Monument (Monas) Area, Central Jakarta.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the PUPR Ministry was ready to support the Monas area arrangement plan.

In accordance with the draft revitalization of green open areas in the Monas area, this structuring activity can increase the green open area of the Monas area from 50 percent to 64 percent.

"This meeting will be immediately followed up by accelerating planning and implementation so that it can be carried out from 2023 to 2024, and this plan will soon be submitted to the Minister of State Secretary," Basuki said in his official statement, quoted Wednesday, April 12.

The Monas area is a Cultural Conservation area in accordance with the Decree of Governor No.475 of 1993 and Decree on the Determination of Cultural Conservation No.PM.13/PW.007/MKP/05, so the plan to organize the Monas area must use a strategy to preserve cultural heritage areas with a revitalization approach.

"The plan to organize and reforestation at Monas is to be more comfortable as an open space for the community. We will bring the regional planning board chaired by the Minister of State Secretary and we will immediately carry it out this year," said Basuki.

The Ministry of PUPR together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government are known to have held discussions regarding the arrangement of the Monas area several times, and finally in February 2023.

The arrangement of the Monas area is the winner of the competition conducted by the DKI Government to green the Monas area and will continue with the implementation of its construction by DKI Jakarta, the Ministry of PUPR, the Ministry of SOEs, and the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub).

There are several references in the preparation of master plan structuring the Monas area, namely, paying attention to water infiltration considering that the Monas area is a green area of cultivation, providing and utilizing green open spaces in urban areas, realizing the implementation of good rainwater management in order to ensure resilience and sustainability, meeting building technical standards, especially in terms of providing access facilities for persons with disabilities, and securing national vital objects in the field of culture and tourism regarding cultural heritage buildings.

The Ministry of PUPR has also carried out a design review of the arrangement of the Medan Merdeka area, including the Monas area.

There are several recommendations that have been given, such as masterplans for structuring the Monas area, it is necessary to consider the management of basic regional infrastructure, including waste management, provision of clean water, wastewater treatment, and drainage channels, as well as considering security aspects because they enter the 'Ring 1' area.
