JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has completed the construction of the Banjarbakula Regional Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM), in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Kalsel).

The completion of the SPAM will be useful for increasing the supply of piped clean water in five cities/districts, such as Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru, Banjar, Barito Kuala, and Tanah Laut.

The inauguration of the Banjarbakula Regional SPAM was marked by the signing of an inscription by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in Banjarbaru, on Friday, March 17.

President Jokowi said that the Regional SPAM of Banjarbakula has great benefits to supply around 60 thousand households that require drinking water in Banjarmasin City, Banjarbaru City, Banjar Regency, Barito Kuala Regency, and Tanah Laut Regency.

"Everything will be provided from this SPAM and the water will be taken from the Riam Kanan River. It will be withdrawn about 20 km, processed here until it is clean, then supplied to the household," Jokowi said in his official statement, quoted on Saturday, March 18.

Regional SPAM Banjarbakula itself is located in North Banjabaru District with a land area of around 44,492 m2. Currently, the provision of SPAM drinking water can be utilized at 750 liters/second.

The construction of the Banjarbakula Regional SPAM began in 2013 through the construction of the Karang Intan intake and a transmission pipe with a capacity of 1,200 liters/second. Then, the Banjarbakula Regional SPAM was built phase I with a capacity of 250 liters/second with a reservoir building with a capacity of 2,000 m3 and was completed in 2016.

In 2020, the construction of phase II has a capacity of 500 liters/second with a reservoir building with a total capacity of 3,000 m3, as well as the implementation of the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and has been completed by the end of 2021. Phase II development was carried out by contractor PT Jasuka Bangun Pratama and supervision consultant PT Intimulya Multikencana.

Overall, the construction of the Banjarbakula Regional SPAM costs IDR 787 billion with the benefits of the community served 60,353 Home Connections (SR).
