Minister Of Transportation Budi: Community Movement During Eid 2023 Is Predicted To Reach 123.8 Million People

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that the movement of the community reached 123.8 million people during the Eid al-Fitr 2023 period (Idulfitri 1444 H).

The prediction of the movement of the community is the result of a potential survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation through the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT).

"This number increased by 14.2 percent when compared to the prediction of people moving during the Eid al-Fitr period in 2022 which reached 85.5 million people," Budi told reporters, Tuesday, March 7.

Seeing the potential for such a high community movement during this year's homecoming period, said Budi, the Ministry of Transportation together with relevant stakeholders will prepare anticipatory steps.

"Both in the form of preparation of transportation infrastructure, safety aspects, traffic engineering management, and other policies so that this year's homecoming can run safely, safely, and under control," he said.

The High Motivater Factor For Community Movement

Budi said there are several factors that cause a high potential for community movement during this year's homecoming period. Among them are the absence of PPKM, and entering a pre-endemic period or approaching normal after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Then, the economy is getting better, there are no restrictions or travel restrictions, and positive perceptions from the community in the implementation of Eid Transportation in 2022," he said.

Therefore, Budi assessed that the handling of the homecoming flow and the return to Lebaran this year is very challenging. "So we have prepared anticipatory steps since the beginning of the year," he said.

"In addition, the evaluation of the implementation of homecoming and the previous Christmas and New Year became an important provision as a lesson so that this year it could be even better," said the Minister of Transportation.
