The fate of Jabodetabek electric train (KRL) passengers now rests on decisions related to the 10 train sets that have expired this year.

The reason is, until now, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has never allowed imports of the former Japanese KRL for the main reason of the program to Increase the Use of Domestic Production (P3DN).

Even so, PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) assesses that the import of used trains from Japan is still needed to maintain the continuation of the Jabodetabek KRL operation.

On the other hand, the company has also ordered 16 local product trains from PT INKA (Persero). However, the train order cannot be completed in the near future

Responding to this, TJSL & Stakeholder Relations Senior Manager PT INKA (Persero) Bambang Ramadhiarto said that his party and KCI must first make a contract agreement before being able to produce 16 series of KRL.

"The number of KRL is around 16 series/trainsets and each series consists of 12 carriages. The contract will be signed for the first delivery of the 22nd month after the effective date of contact (EDC), the delivery of the 16th series is the 31st month after EDC," said Bambang when contacted by VOI, Friday, March 3.

According to Bambang, his party together with PT KCI have discussed together regarding the production schedule to be carried out by PT INKA (Persero), so that it was found that the order for the train series would be completed in 2025.

"The production schedule has been discussed together. The schedule has considered all aspects that affect project completion, such as lead time main components, system design, production process, testing, and others," he said.

With these considerations, Bambang continued, his party will also complete orders for a series of trains in 2025, as previously discussed with PT KCI.

"INKA's capacity is very adequate, God willing, there will be no obstacles from various aspects. In principle, PT INKA will give its best for everything, including Quality Cost, Delivery and Services," he explained.

Therefore, Bambang emphasized that the order that had been made by PT KCI would be completed within the next two years. "Yes, 2025," he concluded.
