JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has adapted the concept of sustainability in fostering the manufacturing industry by spurring the development of the green industry.

The practice of sustainability prioritizes environmental maintenance for a better future on earth.

"The green industry is one of the industrial sector policies that prioritizes efficiency efforts and effectiveness of sustainable resource use, so that industrial development can be in line with the sustainability of environmental functions and can benefit the community," said Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry Doddy Rahadi in Jakarta, Thursday, January 26.

Doddy said the policy of implementing the Green Industry Standard (SIH) could be a device used by the industry to meet regulations on the use of sustainable resources.

Through this effort, industrial companies that have implemented the green industry concept are also expected to have high competitiveness.

"It's time for all to be part of the transformation towards sustainable industrial development by supporting the creation of environmentally friendly industries," he said.

To date, the government is known to have set 34 Green Industry Standards and appointed 14 Green Industry Certification Institutions (LSIH), 12 of which are centers under BSKJI, including the Ministry of Industry's Center for Standardization of Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Packaging Services (BBSPJIKFK).

The appointment of BBSPJIKFK Kemenperin is one of the LSIH established through the Minister of Industry Regulation Number 24 of 2021 with 11 scopes, including portlan cement, powder milk processing, water-based, urea fertilizer, palm oil cooking oil, organic solvent-based paint, crystalline white sugar, solid NPK fertilizer, plastic and bioplastic shopping bags, paper and waveboards, as well as glass-based packaging.

"The Ministry of Industry's BBSPJIKFK Green Industry Certification Institute is supported by three green industry auditors. In consistency with the implementation of its quality system, external parties have routinely carried out internal audits every year, as well as specifically for the Green Certification Quality System. has been audited externally by the Ministry of Industry's Green Industry Center," explained Doddy.

The Green Industry certification carried out by the Ministry of Industry is expected to support the Indonesian government's commitment to contribute to climate change management which has set a target of reducing carbon emissions or greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent through its own capabilities.

Meanwhile, as many as 41 percent are through international support in 2030, in accordance with the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) commitment and the target is to achieve Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060.

In an effort to encourage the manufacturing industry in the country in implementing the green industry, the Ministry of Industry's offices, including BBSPJIKFK, continue to conduct socialization.

The Ministry of Industry targets industry players to transform into a green industry and adhere to the principles of sustainability in their activities to jointly support government targets.

"This is to achieve a more noble goal, namely the survival of nature for the life of the human generation in the future," concluded Doddy.

Just to note, in 2022, LSIH BBSPJIKFK has implemented Green Industry Certification for three industrial companies with water-based paint and urea fertilizer.

One of the companies that has received SIH and at the same time received an award as one of the Best Performance Green Industry in the Green Industry Award organized by the Ministry of Industry some time ago was PT Avia Avian.
