JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is targeting investment realization this year of IDR 1,400 trillion.
This target has increased from 2022 which amounted to IDR 1,200 trillion.
Even so, the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia is optimistic that he can achieve this.
"This is very patent. Hopefully this year's target of IDR 1,400 trillion can be achieved. Add extra work to achieve this," he said in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, January 24.
Bahlil said, the increase in this year's target departed from the realization of a successful investment in 2022, namely IDR 1,207 trillion or 106 percent of the target set at IDR 1,200 trillion.
Even so, Bahlil admitted that 2023 would be the toughest year for Indonesia. Especially in realizing the investment.
“Yes. Be honest. 2023 is a tough year for the Republic of Indonesia. Yes, that's President Jokowi. Mr. President Jokowi really likes to have opponents. So he is always a measurable optimist and the President likes challenges," he said.
Bahlil said there are two things that pose challenges in realizing the investment target in 2023. First, global conditions are full of uncertainty.
"Global conditions up to today, we know that no one can say for sure what will happen. Even several world institutions say that the potential for the feeling of there is very large, it remains only today that we will be discussing how deep the recession is. It's deep or not too deep," he said.
In fact, said Bahlil, the contribution of foreign investment in Indonesia is very large.
In 2022, Bahlil said that foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia will reach 53 percent of the total realized investment of IDR 1,207 trillion.
"This means that if the global condition is not good, how is the condition of FDI?" he said.
The second challenge, continued Bahlil, is that 2023 is a political year.
This will be a challenge in realizing the investment this year.
Because, according to Bahlil, investors will take a wait and see attitude when investing.
Because of that, Bahlil suggested all ranks in the government to work together to maintain political stability this year.
This is because stability is the main key in maintaining the economy and investment.
“Because that's the only thing that can save us. When we argue about things that are not substantive, then sorry investors will give rise to doubts," he said.
