First DDF LNG Head Truck Trial In Indonesia, Commitment Of Pertamina Gas Subholding Expansion Of Clean Energy Services For The Transportation Sector

JAKARTA - Pertamina's Gas Subholding continues to carry out its commitment to expand the use of natural gas in all sectors, both industrial, commercial, and transportation.

After successfully implementing the Dual Fuel (DDF) Diesel system on Pertamina's fuel oil truck (BBM), PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk ("PGN") together with its subsidiary PT Gagas Energi Indonesia (Gagas) also began implementing the use of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) or natural gas in liquid form for gas fuel transport trucks.

The LNG truck trial was released directly by the Director of Operations and Commercial Gagas, Dian Kuncoro from Kelapa Gading, Jakarta accompanied by representatives from PGN and Pertamina on the third Sunday of January 2023.

Separately, the President Director of Gagas, Muhammad Hardiansyah, explained that this trial was one of Gagas' efforts and the Subholding Gas Group to expand the use of natural gas, especially for the transportation sector. The commitment to implementing the DDF is in line with Pertamina's strategic plan to expand the utilization of natural gas in the current energy transition era.

"We support 100 percent of Pertamina's efforts in the use of environmentally friendly and subsidized energy. The use of natural gas in the transportation sector will assist the Government in suppressing energy subsidies as well as assisting the government in carrying out a blue map of achieving the commitment target towards Net Zero Emission. The entire trial process for using LNG on trucks has been successfully carried out. All LNG trucks have arrived in Surabaya safely, without any problems and show performance as expected. This will certainly be one of the important miles of Subholding Gas Group, namely operating the first LNG-fueled truck in Indonesia, "explained Hardiansyah, in his written statement, Tuesday, January 24.

Furthermore, Hardiansyah also added that this initiative is also part of the efforts and support of the Gas Group Subholding in order to reduce emissions and national logistics costs to increase the competitiveness of national products and services which are expected to have a real impact on national economic growth.

The trial was carried out on Sunday, January 15 by conducting trials on three trucks carrying a 40 feet LNG Semitrailer, Mobile Refueling Unit (MRU) LNG and Gas Transport Module (GTM) CNG 20 feet traveling from Jakarta - Surabaya - Jakarta. This trial was carried out for 5 (five) days using a truck with a LNG 1000 liter LNG fuel cylinder capacity.

The Jakarta - Surabaya travel trial was carried out through two routes, namely the Jakarta Surabaya route via Semarang via toll and Jakarta Surabaya via Semarang via non-toll roads. This is done to see the resilience of trucks through two different road terrains.

The three trucks departed from Jakarta with a full tank fuel condition of 900 liters LNG. Then the truck will again charge LNG through MRU LNG which is also involved in the trial at SPBG Mangkang, Semarang.

For the first and second trucks carrying LNG Semitrailer 40 Feet and Mobile Refueling Unit (MRU) LNG which runs via toll routes with a distance of about 431 km, it is recorded that they only spend 268 liters of LNG each, while for the third truck carrying GTM 20 Feet which runs via non-toll routes with a distance of about 454 km, it is recorded that it only costs 314 liters of LNG on the journey of Jakarta - Semarang.

The next route journey from Semarang - Surabaya was carried out on Monday (16/01). The three trucks started their journey to Surabaya with a fully LNG fuel tank or containing 900 liters of LNG. For the journey of Semarang - Surabaya, the two trucks that took toll routes with a distance of about 409 km were recorded to have spent 274 liters of LNG each.

As for the third truck that takes the non-toll road with a distance of about 356 km, it costs 265 liters of LNG. The three trucks arrived in Surabaya on Monday night and showed no problems during the trial trip.
