2.8 Million Unemployment Of Alami Hopeless Of Job, 76.90 Percent Graduates Of SMP Below

JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah revealed that there are four challenges in reducing unemployment in Indonesia.

One of them is unemployment that experiences hopeless of job or unemployment who finds it impossible to get a job.

Of the total 8.4 million unemployed people, 2.8 million or 33.45 percent experienced hopeless of work.

Of the 2.8 million unemployed people who experienced the hopeless of job situation, around 76.90 percent were highly educated (first high school (SMP) and below).

"So because the level of education is low, they have no hope of having a job. This indicates that their level of education is unable to prepare them to enter the job market, both low education and their competence," said Ida in an official statement, Tuesday, January 17.

The second challenge, continued Ida, is the pressure to increase job creation, especially in the formal sector. Meanwhile, the third challenge is the value of the new work culture.

Generations Y and Z that are included in the labor market have brought the values of a new work culture. For example, the value of work-life-balance, meaningful work and worktainment," he said.

Finally, said Ida, the challenges faced are the risk of mismatched or incompatibility between supply and demand due to digitization.

"Digitalization encourages changes in job skills demand, work relationship patterns, and more flexible workplaces," he said.

Therefore, according to Ida, the key to overcoming unemployment in the labor market is to create an inclusive labor market.

"The Ministry of Manpower has made an active laboratory policy to create inclusive job markets and reduce unemployment," he said.
