Optimistic That The 2023 Capital Market Is Better, OJK Boss: No Wait And See Terms, It's All About Investment

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Mahendra Siregar revealed that the positive score achieved by the Indonesian capital market throughout 2022 is a separate picture of the national economy having good durability.

According to him, a number of achievements made are clear evidence that Indonesia has the ability to deal with continued global uncertainty. Therefore, Mahendra believes that the increase in investment in the capital market will continue to climb in 2023.

"So there is no waiting and see term for Indonesian investment. Its all about investment, investment, investment. We must strengthen it and encourage its momentum," he said when delivering a speech at the opening of trading at the Indonesia Stock Exchange 2023, Monday 2 January.

Mahendra explained, as of December 30, 2022, the JCI was already at 6,850.62 points or managed to grow by 4.09 percent this year.

He said, along with the growth in the JCI, market capitalization also grew by 15.06 percent to Rp9,499 trillion or 50 percent of GDP Indonesia 2022.

"The increase in JCI's performance was also followed by the growth in the number of retail investors in Indonesia to 10.30 million SID or an increase of more than 10 times in the last five years," he said.

Mahendra added that the number of retail investors was dominated by domestic investors by 55 percent and dominated by investors under the age of 30 by 58.74 percent.

Meanwhile, the JCI 2022 once broke the record high in history at the level of 7,318.01 points, to be precise on September 13, 2022. Likewise with market capitalization which recorded the highest record in history on December 27, 2022, amounting to Rp9,600 trillion.

"Indonesia's economic performance as reflected in the performance of the capital market is much better than countries in Europe and Asia in general," he concluded.
