JAKARTA - Since the issue of providing incentives or subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles circulated in mid-December, apparently the government has not implemented this policy until now.

The rules regarding the provision of incentives are still being discussed by a number of related parties, including the budget which is known to be held in a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR).

According to the news circulating, the regulation will be issued in June 2023.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita also responded to this information.

According to Agus, the time related to the implementation of the policy has not yet been determined. Because, it is still in the finalization stage.

"If it can be faster than June, why not. However, basically there is no time frame yet. We haven't knocked the formula yet. After the government has agreed on a formulation, we will talk to the DPR. If it can be faster than June, yes, Alhamdulillah," said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang at his office, Tuesday, December 27.

Agus admitted that there was information regarding the electric vehicle incentive policy that would make buyers hold back their purchases.

However, his party ensures that when all the rules have been finalized, all manufacturers that make electric vehicle products in Indonesia will harvest sales.

"I just came from Hyundai, so I told them when we issue incentives, you will harvest tremendously. There are only two manufacturers, Ioniq 5 and Wuling Air EVs," he explained.

In addition, the purpose of announcing the incentive for electric vehicles is to attract investors to quickly realize their investment in Indonesia.

"Our luck in announcing the plan to provide incentives that must be underlined is to immediately invest in Indonesia," concluded Agus.

Previously, the government planned to provide incentives for every purchase of electric vehicles, both cars and motorbikes, which are produced by companies that own factories in Indonesia.

According to the plan, the incentives to be provided for the purchase of electric cars are around Rp. 80 million, and for hybrid-based electric cars around Rp. 40 million.

Meanwhile, for the type of two-wheeled vehicle, the government will provide incentives of around Rp. 8 million. Then, the conversion motorbike into an electric motorcycle gets an incentive of around Rp. 5 million.

This incentive is expected to provide various benefits for the development of the electric vehicle industry.
