JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Finance, which acts as the supervisor of the appraisal profession, continues to strive to accelerate the professionalism of assessors in order to be a trigger for economic growth.

Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani said Indonesia currently holds the presidency of the ASEAN Valuers Association (AVA) for the period 2021 2022. In the 2022 The 24th AVA Congress event in Bali this week, the Minister of Finance said that the mandate carried out in AVA coincided with the G20 Presidency.

Therefore, he feels the need to discuss further about AVA's contribution in the context of joint recovery to become stronger (recover together, recover stronger), including the recovery of world economic conditions.

"In accordance with the spirit of its formation which emphasizes the value of neutrality and does not favor any block, ASEAN continues to create a safe and peaceful environment," he said in an official statement on Wednesday, November 23.

The Minister of Finance added that AVA as a manifestation of the role of the appraiser profession in ASEAN member countries holds values that are in line with ASEAN in contributing to the welfare and peace of the world. He said, synergy and togetherness are values that can support mutually beneficial cooperation.

"Support on the basis of mutual respect, research, collaboration, education, and institutional strengthening to support the assessment profession as a driver of the country's economy must be an important part of the ongoing cooperation," he said.

The Minister of Finance also hopes that AVA members can be more professional through positive communication and synergy. In addition, he also wants the appraisers to be able to improve their competence, considering the role of current and future appraisers will be increasingly needed.

Assessment is an important part of good governance. The results of the assessment can be the basis for decision making in business and policy formulation. The more accurate the results of the assessment, the better decisions are made," he said.

Furthermore, the state treasurer stated the importance of a good assessment so that many investors can be protected, especially small investors. A credible assessment is considered capable of maintaining the credibility of the financial system so that risks in the business cycle can be reduced thanks to a good risk evaluation.

"The appraisers must consider the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) perspective and then adopt it, as well as assist businesses and policymakers in making the right decisions based on adequate risk evaluation," he said.

Meanwhile, the series of activities of The 24th AVA Congress 2022 consists of organizing assessment professional seminars, Governing Council Meetings, Congress, and Regulatory Framework Meetings.

The Presidency of AVA by Indonesia is a strategic opportunity to be able to show the progress of the national assessment profession in overcoming the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
