Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi held a bilateral meeting with the Japanese and South Korean parties in Bali.

The meeting discussed a number of ongoing cooperations and also discussed the potential for cooperation in the transportation sector in the future.

In a bilateral meeting, the Minister of Transportation met with Japanese Prime Minister Mori Masafumi's Special Advisor today Tuesday, November 15.

Previously, on Monday, November 14, the Minister of Transportation met with the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation of South Korea Won Hee-Ryong.

These two countries are strategic partners for Indonesia and have carried out many mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, including the transportation sector.

"As directed by President Joko Widodo, we continue to encourage increased cooperation in the transportation sector with many countries. Currently, many countries want to invest in building transportation infrastructure in Indonesia, therefore we must take advantage of this opportunity," he said in an official statement, Tuesday, November 15.

At a meeting with Japan, Budi discussed a number of developments that have been and will be collaborated with by the two countries, including MRT; Patimban Port; construction of a proving ground; Jakarta-Surabaya semi-fast train; and cooperation in developing marine infrastructure and human resources.

"Yesterday, we signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan regarding the continuation of the MRT Jakarta East-West Line Phase 1 development. This is the first step in accelerating the development of MRT Jakarta, and I believe that with the experience of cooperation between the two countries in the previous MRT project, the construction will run smoothly," he said.

Meanwhile, meetings with South Korea also discussed a number of developments that have been and will be collaborated with South Korea, such as the development of MRT Jakarta and LRT Jakarta; the potential for cooperation in development in the sea and air sectors; as well as the development of human resources in the transportation sector.

"Yesterday, we and the South Korean government also signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the construction of the MRT Jakarta Phase 4. Hopefully, in the future, the cooperation between the two countries will be more intensively carried out," he said.

For your information, the momentum of the Indonesian Presidency in this year's G20 Summit is used to find opportunities for cooperation in transportation infrastructure development with many countries, through non-APBN creative funding.

This is done so that transportation infrastructure development can continue to be carried out in order to improve the connectivity and competitiveness of the country, amidst the limitations of the state budget.
