Academics Call Family Business Has An Important Role For The State Economy To Global Level

JAKARTA - Prasetiya Mulya University Chancellor Prof Dr. Djisman S Simandjuntak said family business plays an important role in improving the economy of a country.

"As we know there are many challenges in the business world. Family businesses play an important role for the country's economy even at the global level. Supported by developing technology, the business world is also growing rapidly and countries in ASEAN are projected to be the main contributors to the world economy," said Djisman in a written statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 9.

Therefore, he continued, his party seeks to provide knowledge as well as channel basic values and things about the family business through the latest education on planning and insight, both from a global and local point of view to stakeholders.

"Furthermore, we also want to be able to provide value and fundamentals from the family business, as well as facilitate academics and practitioners to carry out network activities during the activity," he said.

Previously, Prasetiya Mulya School of Business and Economics collaborated with Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB) to hold "The 3rd Family Business Academic Conference and Doctoral Colloquium 2022".

NUCB Business School Dean Prof. Kenji Yokoyama PhD said the family business has its own advantages and weaknesses and challenges and complexities. However, apart from all that, the family business plays an important role in improving the country's economy.

Assistant Dean II for Human Resources, Administration and Operations at Prasetiya University Mulya Dr Adrian Teja said the conference combined discussions from theoretical and practical aspects of family companies.

"We bring together academics and practitioners who care about issues of sustainability in the family business. Academics learn how practitioners interpret the values of the family adopted in the company and practitioners update the knowledge that develops based on research results. Synergistic interactions between academics and practitioners are expected to fill each other's gaps between theory and practical," said Adrian.

A balanced understanding between theory and practice helps campuses in designing curriculum that fits the current and future family business needs by utilizing local wisdom to meet global needs.
