JAKARTA The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) does not deny that during the pandemic, Indonesia has benefited from the phenomenon of dual collapse' in the midst of soaring prices of leading export commodities such as coal and palm oil.

Head of BPS Margo Yuwono said the windfall effect has now spread to other sectors and has played a major role in the formation of national domestic products (GDP).

"The number of foreign tourist arrivals (tourists) has jumped quite significantly which has an effect on Indonesia's service sector activities," he said when giving an explanation to the media crew on Monday, November 7.

According to Margo, this condition clearly contributes in itself and supports the income of the commodity sector that has been obtained by the Republic of Indonesia even though there has indeed been a downward trend.

"Exports will continue but tend to weaken due to several more competitive global commodities and lower rupiah purchase transaction exchange rates against the US dollar," he said.

BPS data states that the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia through the main entrance in September 2022 reached 538,32,000 visits. This figure shot up 10,768 percent compared to the conditions in September 2021.

In terms of the current year from January to September 2022, the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia through the main entrance reached 2.27 million visits, an increase of 2.530 percent compared to the number of foreign tourist visits in the same period in 2021.

Meanwhile, for this year the most tourists came from Australia with a portion of 16.7 percent. Followed by Singapore 12.4 percent, Malaysia 9.3 percent, India 6.4 percent, England 4.5 percent.

Meanwhile, China only occupies the ninth position with a contribution of 2.9 percent as many as 15,400 visits.

"The number of foreign tourists has increased significantly in line with the policy of facilitating tourism specifically to encourage growth in exports and services," concluded Margo.
