JAKARTA Bank Indonesia (BI) is optimistic that the pace of economic growth during the third quarter has succeeded in reaching an increasingly strong level amidst global uncertainty.

BI Governor Perry Warjiyo even stated that the third trimester growth rate could reach a record high this year. He revealed this when answering reporters' questions at a press conference on the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK).

"Bank Indonesia still believes that economic growth in the third quarter is still higher than 5.5 percent," he said on Thursday, November 3.

Perry explained that the assumption made by the central bank was based on several indicators. First, the sales index which is still strong. Two, public confidence in future economic expectations.

Three, the performance of banking intermediation which continues growth at the double digit level. And the fourth is Indonesia's current account balance which still posted positive results.

"It all supports that we are optimistic that economic growth in the third quarter can be higher," he said.

Referring to data reported by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's economic growth in the first quarter of 2022 was 5.01 percent. Meanwhile, for the second quarter of 2022, it is known that it is perched at the level of 5.4 percent.

Bank Indonesia itself together with the government have compactly increased the pace of the economy this year to penetrate the figure above 5 percent.
