JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Bank Indonesia (BI) has officially launched the National Movement for Food Inflation Control (GNPIP) in the South Sulawesi (Sulsel) region to increase production and maintain smooth distribution, including shortening the distribution chain.

Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo said that in the midst of global challenges that occur, including production and food, all countries need to prioritize the agricultural sector.

"Calibration and cooperation in all lines are needed to mitigate and adapt the challenges that occur, so as to support the increasing performance of Indonesian agriculture," he said in a written statement quoted on Tuesday, October 25.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, his party continues to implement strategies to increase production capacity, import substitution and increase exports that have the potential to suppress inflation.

"The South Sulawesi Province itself is expected to always support national food," he said.

On the same occasion, BI Deputy Governor Doni Primanto Joewono conveyed various central bank efforts to control inflation, one of which was by maintaining the supply and smooth distribution of goods and strengthening food security. He said the importance of commitment, synergy and collaboration between the government, Bank Indonesia, both at the central and regional levels.

"Of course, with this synergy, various programs can be useful for inflation control. We also express our appreciation to South Sulawesi for the title of the best provincial Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID)," he said.

For information, the South Sulawesi GNPIP was held offline in Makassar, South Sulawesi, containing activities including the signing of Inter-Regional Cooperation (KAD), symbolically handing over 100,000 chili seeds and 150,000 food plant seeds as well as facilities for farmer production infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia together with TPID will continue to synergize in maintaining price stability through strengthening cooperation and implementing the 4K framework (Supply Availability, Smooth Distribution, Price reachability, and Effective Communication).

To note, GNPIP itself is a movement carried out in various regions as a joint commitment to optimize inflation control measures in terms of supply and encourage production for the recovery of the national economy.
