Pertamina And MDI Ventures Agree To New Energy Fund, Minister Of SOEs: Must Be Part Of Economic Growth And Opening Of Job Fields

JAKARTA - Pertamina NRE and PT Metra Digital Investama (MDI Ventures) signed a head of agreement (HoA) on the initiation of investment cooperation in the form of energy funds. The collaboration between Pertamina NRE and MDI Ventures in the New Energy Fundini initiative aims to accelerate energy transition through investment in startup companies in the new and renewable energy sector technology and innovation sectors.

"In line with the business pillars of Pertamina NRE, the New Energy Fund investment target is the low carbon solutions sector, new and renewable energy, as well as the energy sector future business," said SOE Minister Erick Thohir in a statement to the media, Monday, October 3.

Erick said that Indonesia's challenge is to ensure that in the future the market potential in Indonesia reaches IDR 4,500 trillion filled by the Indonesian people. The potential of startups in Indonesia continues to grow.

On the other hand, SOEs are one-third of Indonesia's economic strength which should knit existing and developing potentials.

I really hope that this ecosystem can meet and must be part of our economic growth and job opening. We have never encouraged that we are anti-foreign, but we should work together to build what is called the Indonesian ecosystem, an ecosystem knitted by private sector, small medium enter, and also SOEs," said Erick.

The signing was carried out ceremonially by the Director of Human Resources and Business Supporting of Pertamina NRE, Said Reza Pahlevy and the President Director of MDI Ventures, Donald Wihardja, and witnessed by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, Deputy Minister of SOEs II, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, and Pertamina President Director, Nicke Widyawati.

MDI Ventures is Telkom's venture capital unit, with a fund management value of more than US$830 million. MDI Ventures is the largest technology investment company in Indonesia and has one of the best performance fundings in Asia.

The collaboration between Pertamina NRE and MDI Ventures supported by the Ministry of SOEs opens up funding opportunities for startups that have the same spirit to develop clean energy. Pertamina believes this collaboration will encourage the acceleration of the energy transition," said Reza.

MDI Ventures CEO Donald Wihardja said the strategic value of energy fund has the potential to seize opportunities for innovation in the new renewable energy sector. This is expected to open up new opportunities considering that MDI Ventures as a multi-fund manager can also invest together with energy funds to generate Pertamina's growth and synergy.
