JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Land Transportation has officially increased the tariff for intercity transportation buses (AKAP) for the economy class.

The new rate will be effective this weekend or to be precise as of September 10.

The tariff adjustment is carried out in line with the increase in fuel prices (BBM).

The Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Hendro Sugiatno explained that apart from the increase in fuel prices, the adjustment of AKAP bus fares for this economic class also takes into account the costs of bus crews, namely increasing UMP, health and employment contributions (Jamsostek), and adjusting vehicle and spare parts prices.

"For the cost of AKAP for the economy between provinces from 2016 to 2020, there has never been an increase in tariffs. However, the adjustment of fuel prices requires an adjustment of tariffs. The basic tariff for 2022 is IDR 159 per km, there is an increase from the 2016 basic tariff which is only IDR 119 per passenger per km," he said in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, September 7.

Hendro explained that for the upper limit tariff in the first region, including Sumatra, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, it is now experiencing an adjustment to the upper limit rate to IDR 207 per passenger per km, an increase of 33.5 percent from 2016.

"This has increased compared to 2016, the tariff is 155 per passenger per km," he explained.

Meanwhile, continued Hendro, for the lower limit rate to Rp128 per passenger per km, it rose 34.7 percent from 2016, which was only previously Rp95 per passenger per km.

For region II covering Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Eastern Indonesia, the upper limit rates for 2022 are IDR 227 per passenger per km. Hendro said this tariff rose 31.9 compared to 2016 which was IDR 172 per passenger per km.

"Then the lower limit rate is Rp. 142 per passenger per km, up (33.6 percent) when compared to 2016 Rp. 106 per passenger per km," he said.
