Recovering The Indonesian Aviation Industry, Minister Of Transportation Budi Karya Asks For Collaboration With IATA To Be Upgraded

JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi met with delegates from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) International Aviation Company delegation to discuss strengthening cooperation in the aviation sector.

Collaboration with IATA has been going well so far. In the future, it will continue to be strengthened in joint efforts to restore the aviation industry which has started to rise from the Covid-19 pandemic," Budi said in an official statement received by VOI, Tuesday, September 6.

Budi Karya explained that so far a number of collaborations with IATA have been carried out, including related to environmental sustainability in the aviation sector, strengthening aspects of aviation safety and security, special training related to business management in the aviation sector, and so on.

"In the future, we ask IATA to be able to give public lectures to flight school cadets within the Ministry of Transportation. This is very useful to increase the knowledge of cadets about the aviation business," he said.

The Minister of Transportation invited international airlines to fly a number of international airports in Indonesia, both for passengers and cargo, such as Soekarno Hatta Airport, Kertajati Airport ( umrah and cargo flights), Juanda Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Hang Nadim Airport, Sam Ratulangi Airport.

Then, Zainuddin Abdul Madjid Airport, Kualanamu Airport, Hasanuddin Airport, Yogyakarta Airport, Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport, Minangkabau Airport, Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Airport, Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport, and Sentani Airport (a cargo flight).

On the same occasion, IATA's Regional Vice President, Phillip Goh expressed his appreciation to the Minister of Transportation and the ranks of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation who have been contributing to supporting the recovery of the aviation industry, both nationally and globally.

"The support of the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Transportation is highly appreciated by the international aviation community, especially the alertness in mitigating the problems faced by the aviation industry," he said.

He stated that his party will continue to strengthen cooperation with the Indonesian government, to jointly face challenges in the aviation industry.

During the meeting, the IATA delegation explained the latest information regarding the global aviation industry, where the momentum of global flight traffic recovery began to strengthen.

By June 2022, domestic and international flight traffic had reached an average of 70 percent compared to the pre-pandemic period (in 2019).

With details, domestic flight traffic reached 81 percent and international flight traffic reached 65 percent.

The IATA also explained that the recovery in the aviation sector in the Asia Pacific region could be faster, but several things were still hampered, such as the lack of aircraft capacity and human resources due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to IATA, this problem is faced by a number of countries, where flight demand continues to increase beyond the number of available seats.

Also attending the meeting were the Acting Director General of Civil Aviation Nur Isnin Istiartono and the ranks of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
