JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi encourages private sector participation to invest in the port sector by forming a Port Business Entity (BUP). According to Budi, establishing a BUP will further improve port governance so that the services provided will be more optimal.

“Currently we have many Terminals for Self Interest (TUKS) or special terminals (continuous), which are only used exclusively. In the future, we will try to have many TUKS and continue to become BUP," said the Minister of Transportation in his statement quoted by Antara, Thursday, August 11.

According to him, with the increasing number of TUKS ports and continuing to become BUP, the ports can be used for public purposes and will be easier to control because they are properly registered.

He revealed that the government will grant concession rights that are long for up to 30 years and ensure the ease of the TUKS licensing process or continue until it becomes a BUP.

“The TUKS and so on cannot be used for other people. If that is done, then legally it is wrong. We want the port to be managed professionally and we will make it easy to manage BUP permits,” he said.

Furthermore, the Minister of Transportation expressed his appreciation to a number of BUPs who have entered into concession agreements and have cooperated well with the Ministry of Transportation as the port operator.

In addition, the Minister of Transportation also appreciated the Association of Indonesian Port Business Entities (ABUPI) which has been protecting port entrepreneurs, as well as being a good partner for the government in supporting the progress of the port sector in Indonesia.
