JAKARTA - The challenges of the international community in climate change, such as the clean water and food crisis, have received attention from PT Krakatau Tirta Industri (KTI). This subsidiary of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk also offered innovation to overcome one of these challenges.

KTI President Director Aguroro Mulyowahyudi said that KTI will soon have a de-neeralization and desalination water treatment facility (SWRO) outside Cilegon City.

According to Aguroro, the need for clean water consumption continues to increase is not comparable to the availability of clean water which continues to run low, this is a challenge that is being faced not only in Indonesia but a global problem.

Many factors cause this, one of which is due to the degradation of environmental quality so as to reduce the carrying capacity of the environment.

"KTI with its mission to provide water and solutions for industry and society by prioritizing environmental harmony, really understanding the importance of carrying the environment to maintain the availability of clean water for life. This is realized by various environmental rescue programs carried out by KTI so that it succeeded in delivering the Kalpataru award in 2013," said Aguloro in his statement, Friday, July 8.

KTI estimates that global water demand will continue to increase, even reaching 55 percent until 2050. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the availability of clean water and safe sanitation greatly determines the quality of life and human life.

Lebih lanjut Aguroro mengambakan selain upaya menjaga lingkungan, inovasi teknologi pengolahan air juga memegang peran penting dalam penyediaan air bagi kehidupan.

"Of course this makes it a big challenge for all KTI people, but with all the resources KTI currently has, we are optimistic that KTI can implement it. KTI continues to develop its competence, especially for product/service diversification that can be provided to customers," said Agulloro.

Finally, Aguroro revealed that, now KTI Group is not only an expert in the field of providing clean water but has also penetrated other business lines including operation and maintenance (O&M), special water processing for industrial needs, as well as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) business in the water supply industry sector.
