Until 2030, DJKA Targets The Construction Of A 10,524 Km Railway Network

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation targets the construction of a 10,524 km railway network in the country by 2030.

"The national railway vision has been set up to 2030 with a length of 10,524 km, which includes 3,755 km urban railways," said Director General (Dirjen) of Railways, Zulfikri, as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 6.

Zulfikri said the current track length is in the range of 7,032 km, along with the ongoing construction until 2024, it is targeted to build 7,451 km.

The target, he said, was in the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number 296 of 2020, in which there were a number of efforts to develop trains according to the National Railway Master Plan (RIPNAS).

He explained that several efforts to fulfill the RIPNAS include building a railway network on the islands of Sumatra and Sulawesi, the construction of double track and electrification of the main route of Java, and the operation of high-speed trains on the island of Java.

Then, the availability of passenger train facilities as many as 2,839 locomotives and 34,178 trains. Furthermore, freight train facilities are 2,475 locomotives and 48,364 carriages.

The financing needed to achieve this target reaches Rp. 853 trillion, of which 68 percent of alternative financing schemes and 32 percent of the use of the State Budget are used.

"This is an effort to create a competitive, integrated, and responsive railway to developments. Another target is for railways to become the backbone of intercity, urban and freight mass transportation," he said.

He added, for the main project until 2024, the Directorate General of Railways targets the construction of the Makassar-Parepare train, the Jakarta-Bandung fast train and the increase in the speed of the Jakarta-Surabaya train Phase I, namely the Jakarta-Semarang route.

In addition, there is also an improvement in the urban mass public transportation system in 6 metropolitan areas, including Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Medan, Semarang and Makassar.
