The Increase In Chili Prices Becomes The Highest Contributor Of Inflation In Madiun In June 2022

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded inflation in Madiun during June 2022 at 0.66 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 110.16.

The head of the BPS for Madiun City, Dwi Yuhenny, said commodities that contributed greatly to inflation in June 2022, namely cayenne pepper, tomatoes, red chilies, shallots, broiled chicken eggs, filter kretek cigarettes, rice with side dishes, and white cigarettes.

"The highest commodity or the one that has the most influence on inflation is cayenne pepper, which has a share of 0.3498 percent," said Dwi Yuhenny as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 5.

He explained that the inflation in Madiun City in June 2022 which reached 0.66 percent increased when compared to May 2022.

BPS Madiun notes, inflation in May 2022 was at 0.58 percent.

"This increase is still reasonable, but needs to be observed," said Dwi Yuhenny.

In general, the increase in inflation was triggered by price hikes in several expenditure groups.

The results of BPS monitoring, in traditional and modern markets there was an increase in the consumer price index (CPI) from 109.44 in May to 110.16 in June.

The expenditure groups that triggered inflation in June included food, beverages and tobacco (2.50 percent), the food and beverage supply group or restaurants (0.91 percent), recreation, sports and culture (0.42 percent), housing , water, electricity and household fuel (0.29 percent), and personal care and other services (0.26 percent).

Meanwhile, the transportation expenditure group was the only expenditure group that experienced deflation, which was 0.82 percent. Meanwhile, the information, communication, and financial services and education groups did not experience price changes.

Of the eight regencies/cities that measure national inflation in East Java, he said, all of them experienced inflation. The highest was in Kediri at 0.78 percent with a CPI of 110.41.

"Meanwhile, the lowest inflation occurred in Sumenep, which was 0.45 percent with a CPI of 112.17," he said.
