Good News! Sri Mulyani Sends A Signal That The State Budget Will Still Have A Surplus In May 2022

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani is optimistic that the 2022 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) will continue the positive trend of surplus that has been going on since the beginning of this year.

According to the Minister of Finance, the performance of state revenue, which is supported by several revenue sectors, still shows satisfactory results.

For example, in the latest report from the Ministry of Finance in April 2022, it was stated that tax revenue (tax and excise) grew 49.1 percent on an annual basis (year on year/yoy). Likewise, non-tax state revenues or PNBP jumped 35 percent yoy.

"So our state revenue shows an unusually high growth until the end of April, and we estimate that until the end of May it will still hold on," he said during a working meeting with the DPD RI, quoted on Wednesday, June 8.

The Minister of Finance revealed that until now his party is still continuing to recapitulate the posture of the latest APBN to be reported later this month.

"We are still calculating the figures at the end of May, usually in mid-June (it will be reported for the period) until the end of May," he said.

The strong signal that the APBN surplus is approaching the middle of the year is at least driven by several basic assumptions. First, the revenue sector, which continues to thrive, is supported by high commodity prices.

The second is the personnel expenditure side, which usually takes up quite a large budget in THR payments, which was carried out at the end of last April.

VOI noted that the good bookkeeping of the APBN had occurred since January with a surplus of Rp. 28.9 trillion. This was followed by February with a surplus of Rp. 19.7 trillion, a surplus of Rp. 10.3 trillion in March, and a surplus of Rp. 103.1 trillion in April.

The government itself has issued the latest outlook with a projected income to increase by around Rp. 420 trillion, greater than the provisions of the 2022 State Budget Law from the previous Rp. 1,846.1 trillion to Rp. 2,266.2 trillion.
