JAKARTA - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that the national health industry's revenue has the potential to increase to US$32 billion (around Rp.462.13 trillion) per year.

According to him, this potential can be achieved if Indonesia's annual per capita figure for the health sector, which is 112 US dollars (Rp 1.62 million) increases to 300 US dollars and 40-50 percent of it is spent on medicines.

"In the next five years, health spending will rise to the level of Malaysia, an increase of 300 US dollars per capita multiplied by about 270 million people, then 81 billion US dollars. For the medicine, only 40 percent, 32 billion US dollars, then around 400-Rp 500 trillion. Potential revenue upside for the health industry," said the Minister of Health, quoted from Antara, Friday, June 3.

He said this at the launch of the change source facility for the use of Domestic Raw Materials (BBO) at PT Kimia Farma Sungwun Pharmachopia Delta Silicone 1 Lippo Cikarang, South Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, Thursday, June 2.

He added that the government will encourage government procurement for the 2022-2023 period to industries that are developing domestically, including pharmaceuticals, to realize this potential.

The Minister of Health also said that Indonesia had released its dependence on imports of povidone iodine, a raw material for the production of antiseptic wound cleansing fluid or red medicine for domestic needs.

"The povidone iodine is used for red medicine. It was 100 percent imported, but with this raw material, you can buy it domestically," he said.

He said the raw material for the drug is now produced domestically by PT Kimia Farma Sungwun Pharmachopia Delta Silicone 1 Lippo Cikarang.

According to him, the raw material for povidone iodine is imported from a mine owned by PT Kimia Farma in the East Java area.
