JAKARTA - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) has prepared a procedure for providing sacrificial animals since 14 days before Eid al-Adha.

This is to ensure the safety and health of animals from mouth and nail disease (FMD) which is currently endemic.

"Therefore, 14 days before the D day (Idul Adha), according to the existing incubation period, we hope all animals that want to be slaughtered have been registered and animal health treatments are carried out according to procedures," said Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo as quoted by Antara, Wednesday May 25.

Syahrul explained, the Ministry of Agriculture has prepared 1.7 million sacrificial animals for Eid this year.

This number increased from the need for sacrificial animals last year as many as 1.6 million heads.

Syahrul admitted that he had mapped areas that were safe from the spread of PMK.

"We have made a mapping of where the areas that can be taken are, and of course the areas that can be taken are green areas," said Syahrul.

Minister of Agriculture Syahrul appealed to the public, traders and breeders to remain calm and not panic about the FMD outbreak.

However, he suggested temporarily not consuming the parts of livestock that are prone to contamination by FMD, namely the feet, tongue, cingur or lips, and internal organs.

"Meanwhile, the meat is safe for consumption by cooking until cooked," he concluded.
