Erick Thohir Studying The Separation Of Logistics And Passenger Transport At Bakauheni And Panjang Ports

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir said Lampung Province has great potential to become a center for food production for the needs of the Indonesian people. Therefore, the government plans to separate logistics and passenger transportation at Bakauheni port and Panjang port.

The reason, Erick said, was that the level of logistics transportation during the Lebaran 2022 homecoming soared to 116 percent and four-wheeled vehicles increased to 27 percent. The increase in the level of logistics transportation is not a small thing.

"The increase of 116 percent is not a joke. This means that Lampung has really become a food center for the needs of the people in Java. This is what we take care of so that transportation for the community is not mixed with transportation of large trucks," he said in a written statement received by VOI, quoted by VOI. In addition, continued Erick, the purpose of separating logistics and passenger transportation at Bakauheni port and Panjang port is to reduce the burden on ships.

"This causes the ship's load to be heavy and not good for public safety," he said.

Erick assessed that the separation of focus would also simplify and expedite the flow of logistics for people on the islands of Java and Sumatra.

"Port Panjang is being discussed and studied when large trucks can get there. Thank God the people of Lampung thanks to the leadership of Mr. President Jokowi and regional leadership, the economy has improved, when food becomes a production center that can be used by the community, this is what we are trying to maintain a balance ," he said.
