JAKARTA - Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, the price of fresh beef has moved up to Rp. 150,000 in the Kebayoran Baru market. Prices are expected to continue to move up, although not drastically.

A meat trader named Dori said last week the price of meat was still around Rp. 140,000 per kg. However, approaching Eid the price moves up.

"The price is Rp. 150,000 per kilogram for typical deep meat. Yesterday it was Rp. 140,000 per kg, but now there is no such price. Everything is the same here, traders sell Rp. 150,000," he said when met at Pasar Kebarayoan Baru, South Jakarta, Sunday, April 24.

Dori said that beef ribs cost Rp. 90,000 per kg. Meanwhile, the price for cows is around Rp. 110,000 per kg.

To VOI, Dori admitted that there was a significant increase in demand ahead of the 8th day of Eid. If previously on weekdays the biggest seller reached 50 kg, at the moment before Lebaran the demand increases.

"I used to sell 50 kg a day on a normal day, now it can be one quintal," he said.

The same thing happened in North Sumatra. The normal price of beef in North Sumatra is Rp. 110,000-Rp. 120,000 per kg. However, the price of fresh beef this weekend moved up again at Rp. 140,000 - Rp. 160,000 per kg due to high demand approaching Eid 2022.

"It's going up again, because there's not much stock, while demand is starting to increase as we approach Eid," said Yusuf, a meat trader at Sambas Market, Medan, as reported by Antara, Sunday, April 24.

Even though it is increasing, said Yusuf, there are still buyers and even an increase because they are still needed to prepare for Eid.

According to him, there is a possibility that the price will rise again to IDR 150,000 per kg from IDR 140,000 per kg this weekend.

"The price of meat could be Rp. 150,000 or even more at the peak of demand next week because May 2 is Eid al-Fitr," he said.
