JAKARTA - Member of Commission VII DPR, Diah Nurwitasari urged the government to accelerate the construction of the gas network as an effort to anticipate the impact of rising non-subsidized LPG prices in the community.

In her written statement, Diah Nurwitasari, stated that the increase in the price of non-subsidized LPG has resulted in a shift in consumption patterns in the community.

“There has been a shift from society regarding the use of non-subsidized LPG. Due to the increase in non-subsidized LPG prices, people have switched to using subsidized LPG. The government needs to pay attention to this in detail," said Diah, Saturday, April 16.

Diah also emphasized that currently, the layers of society have undergone changes. All of this can be seen from the shift from the economic conditions of the middle class during the pandemic, making it very difficult for the middle class.

In order to meet the increasing demand for gas energy, Diah encourages the government to accelerate the development of gas network implementation in all regions.

"Indonesia's natural gas potential is huge. The government needs to take full advantage of this. Therefore, it needs to be supported by progressive policies," he explained.

Regarding the gas network, previously PT PGN Tbk stated that it has the ability to support the energy transition process through the availability of a mature gas supply and infrastructure in line with the government's policy to increase the use of clean energy towards zero emissions by 2060.

PGN President Director M Haryo Yunianto said in the short term PGN will continue to strengthen infrastructure development and increase natural gas supply sources.

This step is very strategic considering the potential for natural gas needs in the future will be even greater. One of them is related to the new renewable energy (EBT) mix policy of up to 23 percent by 2025.

"As part of the plan to strengthen the business, PGN has integrated infrastructure in northern and central Sumatra, West Java, Central Java and East Java to increase the reliability and flexibility of gas distribution to all market segments. This increasingly integrated infrastructure development will be a top priority PGN," said Haryo Yunianto, quoted from Antara.
