JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) is said to have provided Rp175.26 trillion in cash to meet the needs of the community during the Eid al-Fitr momentum and also throughout Ramadan 2022.

BI Deputy Governor Aida S. Budiman said this effort was carried out in line with the continued momentum of economic growth and to anticipate an increase in public transactions in line with the pandemic which was getting under control.

"The easing of the Implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) and increasing community activities during Ramadan and Eid are expected to increase economic activity and payments, thus requiring an increase in cash and non-cash payment system services," he said in a press statement, Monday, April 4.

According to Aida, taking three strategic steps to ensure the smooth running of the national payment system, especially facilitating economic activities and community needs.

First, providing adequate and hygienic money fit for circulation and currency exchange services throughout Indonesia. Second, encourage people to use non-cash payment transactions, including QRIS, electronic money, BI-FAST, and digital banking, which can minimize physical contact in transactions.

"And the third is to carry out critical BI systems and services to ensure the continuity of the operation of the payment system operated by BI (cash and non-cash) as well as the payment system operated by the industry," he said.

Meanwhile, in order to meet transaction needs in the community ahead of Eid al-Fitr, payment services through the BI-RTGS System, Bank Indonesia Scripless Securities Settlement System (BI-SSSS), Bank Indonesia Electronic Trading Platform (BI-ETP) and SKNBI will continue to operate except on Eid holiday period 2-3 May 2022.

Meanwhile, BI-FAST service continues to operate around the clock or 24 hours.
