Set Credit Distribution Target Above National Target, BRI President Director Sunarso: Grow 9-11 Percent

JAKARTA - President Director of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk Sunarso revealed that the company has set a target for loan disbursement growth of 9 to 11 percent by the end of 2022.

"The national target is 8 percent. If BRI sets it at 8 percent as well, what if others don't reach 8 percent? Then BRI will cover it with an excess of up to 11 percent," said Sunarso when speaking at CNBC Indonesia Economic Outlook 2022, Tuesday. , March 22.

Sunarso is optimistic because people's purchasing power has increased significantly after being hit by 3 waves of COVID-19, resulting in social restrictions.

"We see a significant increase in household consumption so that it can encourage people's purchasing power," added Sunarso.

He further revealed that the growth of bank credit is not only a matter of cheap pricing. Based on the results of a study conducted by Bank BRI, another influential factor is household consumption which is driven by purchasing power, so that credit can be stimulated.

"If consumption increases, loan growth will also advance. I dare to set a target because our people's household consumption is much better," he added.

In addition, the increase in commodity prices is also considered capable of boosting BRI bank lending.

Then, to spur banking growth, Sunarso said, during the pandemic, BRI also made various efforts to rescue the affected MSMEs. Since 2020, BRI has disbursed loan restructuring of IDR 245.22 trillion until December 2021.

Meanwhile, loans worth Rp. 62.16 trillion have been repaid, Rp. 20.26 trillion have been released from restructuring and the rest is loans that cannot be saved, which is Rp. 5.8 trillion or only five percent of the total restructured loans.

"So far, we have distributed it to 2.9 million customers. If MSMEs are safe, then BRI is also safe. If BRI is safe, then the Indonesian economy is also safe," concluded Sunarso.
