JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) will supply 80 MVA of electricity to Antam's ferronickel smelter in East Halmahera, which will operate this year.

Through this Electricity Sale and Purchase Agreement (PJBTL), PLN will electrify Ferronickel smelters for the next 30 years. To be able to meet the electricity demand, PLN will bring in two generators from South Sumatra of 51 MW and Jambi of 60 MW to be brought to East Halmahera so as to optimize the electricity supply for Antam's smelter.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo ensured that through this PJBTL, PLN immediately executed the relocation of idle generators to East Halmahera so that electricity supply could be carried out immediately.

"In the near future, we will immediately relocate the power plant so that it can be operated at Antam's ferronickel smelter," said Darmawan, Wednesday, March 16.

However, for the medium and long term, Darmawan continued, the two companies will work together to create more efficient power plants.

"We will jointly calculate what generators can be more efficient for this smelter. We will do this together. God willing, the electricity will be reliable and efficient," said Darmawan.

Aneka Tambang President Director Nicholas Kanter explained that with the synergy with PLN, the ferronickel refining plant could operate in the near future. This is a factory that has long been anticipated by the company to be able to increase mineral downstreaming.

"There is no doubt from us to cooperate with PLN. Because we are also fellow SOEs. This is the mandate of the Ministry of SOEs to increase collaboration and increase efficiency," said Niko.

He also explained that the smelter is one of the national strategic projects to support mineral downstreaming in Indonesia. With the support of PLN electricity, the smelter, which has been completed, will soon be fully operational.

"With the synergy with PLN, this smelter will operate in 2022," said Niko.
