PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk (BBNI) is considering canceling the plan to increase capital through Pre-emptive Rights (HMETD) alias rights issue which was originally to be held this year. Initially, the company prepared the rights issue to strengthen capital to support business expansion, as well as the company's fundamentals in the midst of economic recovery.

"The decision (to cancel the rights issue) was taken after the company approved the distribution of dividends from net profit for the 2021 financial year yesterday," said BNI President Director, Royke Tumilaar, in a press conference after the company's Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM), in Jakarta, Tuesday, March 15.

In the AGM, the company has determined a dividend distribution of 25 percent of the total net profit in 2021 which is Rp. 10.89 trillion. This means that the total value of dividends distributed to shareholders reaches IDR2.72 trillion, or equivalent to IDR146 per share.

The nominal dividends distributed, explained Royke, jumped 3.3 times compared to the realization of dividends for the 2020 financial year which amounted to IDR 820 billion, or equivalent to IDR 44 per share.

"So taking into account many things and also the dividends that have been distributed, it looks like we might cancel the plan for the rights issue. But this is still in progress. We see the possibility, that with the dividend and 75 percent retained earnings, we believe there will still be capital for expansion. will be enough for the next few years," said Royke.

The rights issue plan itself was first rolled out at the end of January 2022, taking into account the company's need to support business expansion in the midst of economic fundamentals which are still considered to be in the recovery stage after being suppressed by the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to being distributed in the form of dividends, the remaining 75 percent of net profit by BNI will be used as retained earnings to support business development performance.
