JAKARTA – PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BRI) officially announced the company's presence in the metaverse ecosystem.

BRI's Head of Research and Development, Jeffrey Budiman, said this breakthrough allows customers to get access to banking services in a virtual space from anywhere and anytime.

“BRI is following a historical trail by becoming the first bank in Indonesia to enter the metaverse. Here, customers can experience banking services in an immersive and more real way," he said in an official statement on Tuesday, March 8.

According to Jeffrey, this new facility further complements the services that have now been developed by the company, such as physical and digital services. He also revealed that Metaverse could be a game changer for financial inclusion in Indonesia.

“So what I want to clarify at the same time is that Metaverse is not just buying and selling NFT. It (Metaverse) is a virtual space with a unique experience that can be a place for people to get what they need, including banking," he said.

On the same occasion, BRI's Director of Consumer Business, Handayani, said that the company always prioritizes customer comfort and safety.

"BRI will continue to prioritize customer experience in every service. Through our presence in Metaverse, we want to take our customers on a fun journey while reaching a wider audience," he said

For information, the performance of BRI's digital sector is claimed to have recorded promising growth with BRImo service downloads reaching 14 million users. This figure raised the pace of digital transactions, which shot up by 66.24 percent year-on-year (yoy) to 1.27 billion transactions earlier this year.
