JAKARTA – The Investment Alert Task Force (SWI) continues to take decisive action in eradicating the existence of illegal online loans (pinjol) in the midst of society, which often causes anxiety.

SWI chairman Tongam L. Tobing said that his party was trying to take mitigation steps before people were ensnared in this illicit practice.

“How do we see to be able to respond early. Our principle is that before there are victims, they must be blocked (illegal borrowings), we will trample them as soon as they appear,” he said in a webinar on Monday, February 22.

According to Tongam, from 2018 to February 2022 the Task Force had closed as many as 3,784 illegal loans.

"The Investment Alert Task Force encourages law enforcement against these illegal online loan actors by continuously blocking sites and applications from being accessed by the public," he said.

Therefore, Tongam encourages the public to always check the legality status of online loan entities with data located at the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

"At OJK, there are 103 licensed peer-to-peer lending (pinjol) fintechs, apart from that they are definitely illegal," he said.

Meanwhile, from the data shared by Tongam, it is stated that the total distribution of funds by official loans has reached Rp295.8 trillion. This amount was distributed to 73.24 million people's borrowing accounts.

"Eradication of illegal borrowing requires cooperation from all parties, especially the community so that they do not access illegal loans that can be detrimental," he added.

For information, SWI is a task force consisting of 12 ministries and institutions that seeks to eradicate illegal borrowing activities by increasing public literacy by distributing educational content against the dangers of illegal lending.

Currently, several space media in the DKI Jakarta area have broadcast public service advertisements regarding the illegal borrowing alert.
