Result Of SOE Transformation, Erick Thohir: Combined Profit Of BRI, Bank Mandiri, BNI, BTN Soars 78.06 Percent To IDR 72.05 Trillion

JAKARTA - The Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) managed to record a brilliant performance throughout 2021. Himbara in total was able to reap a profit of IDR 72.05 trillion at the end of December 2021. This achievement was recorded to have shot up 78.06 percent from the 2020 profit of IDR 40, 34 trillion.

Himbara itself consists of BRI, Mandiri, BNI, and BTN. If detailed, in total throughout 2021, BRI was able to make a profit of IDR 30.76 trillion, Mandiri IDR 28.03 trillion, BNI IDR 10.89 trillion, and BTN able to contribute a profit of IDR 2.37 trillion.

The Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, appreciated the brilliant performance of these state-owned banks. Erick said that this achievement is the result of the transformation and efficiency that is currently being carried out by the Ministry of SOEs and all state-owned companies.

"Although we all continue to struggle with the disruption caused by the pandemic, Himbara's positive performance can still be improved. The financial, operational, and social responsibility performance that is being carried out can increase rapidly. This cannot be separated from the transformation that is being carried out," he said in an official statement, quoted Tuesday, February 22.

In addition, Erick also appreciated the transformation in each Himbara bank which has now become a competitive advantage in competition in the national financial industry.

"Each Himbara bank has a unique and different specialization so there is no overlap. This means that each has a business focus," he said.

For example, BRI is increasingly focusing on the MSME and ultra micro-segments. Then, continued Erick, Mandiri is dedicated to focusing on working on the corporate segment and national entrepreneurs so that they can continue to rise, BNI has a special task of working on international business and BTN will remain in its main business in the housing sector to reduce backlog numbers and help the community.

"Including millennials, to make it easier to find housing," explained Erick.

In the future, continued Erick, he hopes that Himbara's role will be increasingly felt and become the main driving force for the national economy through empowerment of various segments.

"And give a positive impact for all stakeholders and especially the people of Indonesia," he said.

In line with the statement of the Minister of SOEs, Chairman Himbara Sunarso who is also the President Director of BRI revealed that the main key to Himbara's success in maintaining positive performance, even though the pandemic still haunts him, cannot be separated from Himbara's transformation and skills in responding to the pandemic.

Sunarso said that Himbara's overall good performance could not be separated from the continuous adaptation of the banking industry, the crisis that occurred made our risk management more alert.

"Since 1997 there have been frequent crises, due to frequent crises, regulations, industry discipline for risk management has become more agile. This crisis (pandemic) is the most severe, but various policies issued by regulators and stimulus by the Government are relatively appropriate in responding to the challenges that occur. due to this pandemic," he said.

In addition to the significant profit gain, Sunarso said, Himbara also continues to be the government's main strategic partner in channeling various stimulus programs as an effort to accelerate the national economic recovery.

Himbara is currently continuing to restructure loans affected by COVID-19, even though the current value has decreased and Himbara also continues to distribute various government social assistance programs such as the basic food program, the Family Hope Program (PKH), and the Banpres for Micro Enterprises (BPUM) with the main objective of drive the national economy.

"This is clear evidence that state-owned companies, especially Himbara, do not only play a role in creating economic value in terms of performance and numbers, but we also play a role in creating social value to give meaning to all Indonesian people," concluded Sunarso.
