JAKARTA - Muhammad Khoerul Fadhli never thought that his hobby of keeping poultry breeds turned into a potential business.

Irul, his nickname, is a poultry breeds businessman in Klaten, Central Java. Irul's ornamental chicken business development cannot be separated from the assistance of the Bangun Sejahtera Mitra Umat Foundation (BSMU Foundation) which is a strategic partner of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) through the Islamic Sociopreneur Development Program (ISDP) business incubator scholarship program.

From the ISDP program, he admitted that he was proud to be a part, not only getting business coaching but also about Islam.

Irul said ISDP is a stepping stone for business development to be bigger and faster. "In terms of financing, the funds provided are quite excessive," said Khoerul in a statement released by BSMU, Saturday, February 19.

Irul is a graduate of Gajah Mada University (UGM) and initially started his business when he was an ornamental chicken when he was in college. He didn't expect that the hobby he had been pursuing since 2017 turned into a business when he was accepted for the ISDP scholarship in 2019.

According to Khoerul, the business potential in the ornamental chicken sector in Indonesia is still quite high because there are still many who do not know about poultry breeds.

"The potential is still very wide open. We need to introduce more types of poultry breeds and maybe the beauty of poultry breeds to the public, the more people who know, the more orders or are interested in poultry breeds," he said.

The business from this hobby that he is currently engaged in has generated quite a bit of money, reaching hundreds of millions of rupiah.

Almost all parts of Indonesia have been consumers or buyers of poultry breeds. Irul has even carried out exports and imports although it is still not on a large scale.

Several countries in Europe and East Asia have exported their ornamental chicken eggs and Irul has also imported eggs from outside Indonesia. In the future, Irul hopes that his social business can expand to laying hens and empower more households in Klaten as partners.

According to BSMU, the ISDP program has succeeded in producing students to become young entrepreneurs from various regions.

Head of LIKES & Education Group (LEG) of the BSMU Foundation, Aprilia Evianti said ISDP is a program that prepares students to become entrepreneurs who focus on job creators, not just job seekers.

"With this program, the beneficiaries of this scholarship are expected to form a straight faith, good character, able to provide social impact in the surrounding environment and also in the future can provide a greater impact for the benefit of the people from the developed business," said Aprilia.

So that in addition to the business effect, it is also expected to be a multiplier effect for economic independence and create employment opportunities and increase the number of Muzaki which will help reduce poverty.
