JAKARTA - Two BRI security guards managed to prevent fraud against a customer who was making a cash withdrawal transaction at an ATM gallery in Pematangsiantar, North Sumatra.

“My appreciation for the alertness of the security guards at the Pematang Siantar Branch Office for thwarting social engineering efforts towards our customers. These efforts have succeeded in saving customers from fraudulent actions by irresponsible individuals," said BRI Network and Service Director Arga M Nugraha in a statement received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Saturday, January 29.

The quick response of the two security guards can be seen from the CCTV video footage. An old man was seen making transactions at an ATM machine. However, something suspicious was caught on camera, namely the presence of a man in a white shirt who was watching and standing right behind the customer.

The man in the white shirt who was the perpetrator of the crime carried out a fraudulent act. The modus operandi is, the perpetrator pretends to offer help to the victim to take the money. However, before the action was successfully carried out, two BRI security guards appeared who immediately caught and approached the perpetrator.

Finally, the money remains safe in the hands of the customer. In the process, the victim is reluctant to take this case to court because the perpetrator is willing to return the money

Furthermore, Arga said that BRI always instills an attitude of concern and alertness towards all BRILian personnel. Therefore, every BRI employee is expected to be able to implement this caring spirit anywhere and anytime.

In addition, his party also appealed to the public to increase vigilance, because criminals have increasingly dared to carry out their actions through various modes. BRI as one of the largest banks in Indonesia continues to strive to improve the quality of banking services by ensuring the security and convenience of customer transactions.

BRI urges every customer to be careful in accepting offers of assistance from other parties. If there is something suspicious, such as asking to provide PIN information, the customer can report it to the BRI Contact Center 14017/1500017 or visit the nearest BRI Work Unit.

In addition, other tips that can be applied by customers when transacting at other ATMs are to pay attention to the condition of the ATM machine, change the PIN periodically, and be careful when entering the PIN by closing the keypad to avoid PIN leakage.

BRI through the BRImo digital service has also provided various features to anticipate crimes.

Customers can get notifications for every transaction in real time via their device. If they find an abnormal transaction, the customer can also block ATM access through the BRImo service. That way, customers can monitor every transaction activity periodically through their devices.
