BPS Brings Good News, Poor Population Drops More Than 1 Million People In 2021

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that in the 2021 period there will be a significant decrease in the number of poor people.

In a presentation by the Head of BPS Margo Yuwono today, it was stated that the number of poor people in September 2021 was 26.50 million people.

This figure is down by 1.04 million people from the BPS record in March 2021 which states that there are 27.54 million poor people in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the percentage of poor people in September last year was around 9.71 percent of the total population of Indonesia. Meanwhile, in March 2021 it was recorded at 10.14 percent of the total.

Meanwhile, when viewed from March 2020, it was known that there were 26.42 million poor people (9.78 percent) and 27.55 million people in September 2020 (10.19 percent).

"So if you look at the trend since 2021, it shows better results because the poor population is getting lower. But when compared to conditions before the pandemic, it is currently still higher," he said.

For information, the government through BPS set the September 2021 poverty line at IDR 486,168 per capita per month.

During March 2021 - September 2021, the poverty line rose by 2.89 percent, from IDR 472,525 per capita per month in March 2021, to IDR 486,168 per capita per month in September 2021.

“The role of food commodities on the poverty line is much greater than the role of non-food commodities. In September 2021, food commodities will contribute 74.05 percent to the poverty line," said Margo.
