Sido Muncul Gets A Proper Award From KLHK

JAKARTA - PT Industri Jamu and Pharmacy Sido Muncul Tbk (Sido Muncul) has again received an award for the Gold Company Performance Rating Program (Proper) from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (Ministry of LHK).

The award was officially obtained after the Ministry of Environment and Forestry announced the list of winners of the Proper Gold 2021 virtually on the Youtube account of the Directorate General of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control, Tuesday, December 28. This year's Proper Emas is the second time Sido Muncul has won the award.

Previously, the producer of Tolak Angin managed to get the same award for the first time in 2020. Marketing Director of Sido Muncul, Irwan Hidayat, said that his party was both happy and proud of the Proper Emas award that was won.

He also specifically expressed his appreciation to the Sido Muncul Environmental Team. Because, thanks to the team's performance, Sido Muncul managed to bring home a prestigious award in the environmental field from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

Sido Muncul's success in achieving Gold Proper, said Irwan, also cannot be separated from the company's commitment to following all regulations that have been issued by the government.

Irwan explained, Sido Muncul made various efforts to preserve the environment. The Company has succeeded in efficient use of electricity by using a chiller absorber machine to replace a conventional chiller.

The company has also succeeded in reducing exhaust emissions from the production process. In addition, the company has also succeeded in innovating to create a herbal steam chamber tool to make water use more efficient.

"Sido Muncul also seeks to reduce the burden of water contamination and non-toxic hazardous waste (B3) by using a grinding machine," said Irwan during a press conference to receive the award, quoted Wednesday, December 29.

Another innovation, said Irwan, is Sido Muncul upgrading the wastewater treatment plant (IPAL) system at the Sido Muncul factory. The WWTP system serves to facilitate the management of production waste as well as a precautionary measure if the old installation is disrupted.

"We started using IPAL two years ago because the management of waste from the herbal medicine industry is much more difficult than pharmaceuticals. The waste from the herbal medicine industry has high levels of biological oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD)," explained Irwan

Not only that, Sido Muncul's success in winning the Gold Proper this year was also due to the creating shared value (CSV) program that was run in Banyumas Regency, Central Java. Banyumas was chosen because it has cardamom which is the raw material for Sido Muncul's herbal products.

Through this program, Sido Muncul seeks to encourage the economy of Banyumas cardamom farmers. This effort has had a positive impact on both parties.

"Usually the company helps the community to be independent. Now, what we do has a big impact on both of them, (not only the community). We have been carrying out this effort since 1998. So far, there are around 130 farmer groups that are working with us," he said. Irwan.

For information, the Proper award is an award given by the government to encourage companies to obey environmental management. The award rankings are divided into five color categories. From the aspect of obedience, the color categories that will be given are Blue, Red, and Black.

Furthermore, there are Green and Gold categories for companies with performance beyond the government's requirements (beyond compliance). The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has set 9 criteria for environmental management and community empowerment.

These criteria include environmental management systems, energy efficiency, emission and greenhouse gas reduction, water efficiency, and the reduction and utilization of B3 waste. Then, reuse, reduce, and recycle (3R) waste management, protection of biodiversity, community development, and implementation of life cycle assessment and social return on investment.
